The story of the historic Oak Screen from the Thomas Hardye School…

Our reporter recently visited the Jubilee Hall in Poundbury where currently housed is a piece of Dorchester history, namely the Elizabethan Oak Screen from the former Hardye’s School at Barne’s Way which, many years ago, was relocated to the hall of the later, then new, Thomas Hardye School at Queen’s Avenue. The screen was taken down when the school hall was refurbished in 2023, but, upon being placed in an auction, was later removed from sale. Having been returned to the school, more recently the screen is being restored on behalf of the Old Hardyeans Society. KeeP 106 presenters Peter  and Heather Foster are joint secretaries of the society and Peter spoke to the gentleman responsible for the restoration work…
