Driver fails to stop for Police in Weymouth then crashes in Osmington

Police officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward following a road traffic collision near Weymouth.

Dorset Police received a report at 9.10pm on Saturday 3 August 2024 that a vehicle had failed to stop for officers on The Esplanade.

A further report was received at 9.14pm that the vehicle involved – a silver Ford Mondeo – had been involved in a single vehicle collision on the A353 at Osmington. It was reported that the vehicle had collided with a building.

The occupant, a man aged in his 20s, was arrested on suspicion of driving offences and was taken to hospital as a precaution for treatment to injuries that were not believed to be serious. He was subsequently discharged from hospital and has been released under investigation.

Sergeant Scott Williams, of Dorset Police, said: “We are continuing to investigate this collision and I am appealing for any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please make contact with us.

“It is believed the vehicle travelled along the Esplanade in Weymouth before heading through Greenhill and up Preston Road before travelling along the A353 to Osmington.

“I would urge anyone who was driving in the vicinity around the relevant timeframe to please review any available dashcam footage to see if they have captured anything that might assist our enquiries.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55240118785. Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously online at Crimestoppers-uk.org or by calling Freephone 0800 555 111.
