Bank Holiday Sports Report

Weymouth Football Club’s Nation League South record so far this season reads: Played 5, Lost 5, Goals for 2, Goals against 11, and Points Zero. Not the start that manager Mark Molesley would have desired before the season kicked off.

However, on Bank Holiday Monday afternoon, the Terras had an opportunity to break their duck at the Bob Lucas Stadium when they hosted Eastbourne Borough.

Unfortunately, the game ended in another defeat for the Terras by a solitary goal to nil.

Our Man at the Match said, “Weymouth was doing okay until probably their most creative player, Brandon Goodship, went off injured, which is a shame as he has only just recovered from an injury”.

“For their effort, the Terras deserved better; Eastbourne can count themselves very lucky to return with all three points”.

“Weymouth have a tough game away at Slough on Saturday next. They will need to raise their performance levels if they are to at least return with a point”.

On Saturday, they travelled to Boreham Wood, one of the title favourites, and lost by three goals to nil.

After the final whistle, Molesley said, “Boreham Wood are one of the strongest sides in the division, and we went toe to toe with them. We are creating chances but not taking them, and we must become more secure at the back.”

“We produced enough moments in the game today to have got our first win on the board, and we haven’t. Now we look forward to Monday against Eastbourne Borough”.

Dorchester hosted Gloucester City at the Avenue Stadium. Despite being reduced to 10 men in the 67th minute when Will Spetch received his second yellow card, off he went, the Magpies managed to hold on to their narrow one-goal-to-nil lead until the final whistle.

After the game, manager Tom Killick, back in the dugout following his recovery from Sepsis, said:” It’s great to be back, and I would like to thank the fans who got behind the team this afternoon following Will’s dismissal. Wes Fogden’s energy levels for a player of his age, leading by example breaking up attacks, and his attacking flair were formable, and we are lucky to have him in our squad”.

The Magpie’s goal came from Luke Pardoe in the 42nd minute of the first half.

Fogden was presented with the Man of the Match award after the game.

Portland United crashed out of the FA Vase at the first hurdle away at Whitchurch who play in the division below the Blues and manager Kyle Critchell was not best pleased, he said: “I am completely embarrassed by our performance today. In the first half, they had just 1 shot on target, and our keeper saved it, but our second-half performance was poor. Whitchurch converted the 1 second-half chance they had and scored, then we created enough chances to win the game, but we didn’t take them and to be honest, I am baffled, gutted and angry with our second-half performance; however, we get a chance to put it right on Tuesday evening at Grove Corner against Hamworthy Recreation, we just have to score more goals”.

On Sunday, Weymouth Football Club’s women’s Development squad played Bridport Ladies at St Mary’s Field, with the Bees’ ladies winning the game by 6 goals to 3.

Most of our Dorset League Cricket fixtures fell victim to the weather bar 3, all in division 3.

Abbotsbury beat Wimborne’s Thirds by 8 wickets, Cattistock & Syneme won at home against Winton by 4 wickets, and Symene Sports emerged victors against Poole’s third team by 142 runs.
