It was not a good day out for the Weymouth Football Club fans who travelled to Enfield to watch their team play in a National League South relegation 6-pointer as the Terras went down by a goal to nil.
Dorchester were also away and took the road to Tiverton for an FA Trophy third-qualifying round tie.
Neither side could manage to break the deadlock, and the match was decided on penalties, with the Magpies progressing into the fourth round draw, outscoring their hosts, scoring 5 pens to 4.
Portland United entertained Bournemouth Poppies at Grove Corner and went a goal down before the Blues striker Breg Borthwick netted an equaliser. However, despite getting a foothold back into the game, in the second half, the Poppies scored again to pouch all 3 Wessex Premier League points to make the final score Portland United 1 vs Bournemouth Poppies 2.
Greg Borthwick netted the Blues’ only goal.
In the Southwest Peninsular League, East Bridport overran their visitors at St. Mary’s Field, beating Middlezoy Rovers by 7 goals to 1.
In the only local Tribute League Rugby match to take place this weekend, Puddletown made the short journey to Monmouth Avenue to lock horns with Weymouth & Portland, and the village side thoroughly deserved their 20 points to 12 result with their fly half making an outstanding contribution to the Villagers’ victory.
But all was soon forgotten for the Seahorses squad as it was straight into the bar after the game to enjoy the club’s Octoberfest.
On Sunday, Weymouth Football Club’s women’s team played Bideford women at the Bob Lucas Stadium and won by 4 goals to 1. Emily Screen bagged a hat trick with Ruby Clark adding the Terras’ fourth.
Bridport Ladies travelled to Wincanton and returned to St Mary’s with an eleven-goals-to-nil win in the bank. Clare Darby bagged a hat trick and then added two more goals to it, with three more goals coming from Aleeshea Rowland, with Florence Valinski, Holly Perryment, and Masie Macdonald all adding a goal each.
