Weekend Sports Report

Weymouth Football Club’s senior men’s team’s sorte into this season’s FA Cup competition ended at The New Lawn Stadium, where they were beaten by Forest Green Rovers by 2 goals to nil.

Our Man at the Match said, “Weymouth travelled up as massive underdogs against the recent EFL team and were still in the game well into the second half, and to add to that, their second goal came following what appeared to be a blatant foul on Tom Bearwish, but the referee didn’t see it that way. The fans have to be proud of the players, but yet again, the Terras couldn’t find the back of the net, and to make it worse, with St. Albans winning today, Weymouth are now propping all of the other National League South teams on the bottom of the league table”.

Dorchester took the lead at Marlow courtesy of striker Shaquille Gwengwe, then conceded twice, only for Corby Moore to net the equaliser to make the final score Marlow 2 Dorchester 2, a good point on the road for the Magpies.

Shaq Gwengwe scored again for the Magpies at Marlow.

Very often, a football match is described as a game of two halves and Portlands game at Grove Corner against visitors Hamble was very much in that vane.

The Blues raced into a two nil half time lead with goals from Freddie Beale and Greg Borthwick; however, after the break, they conceded four times with no further scores from themselves, making the eventual outcome Portland United 2 Marlow 4.

Bridport go into the next draw for the Southwest Peninsular League Cup following their five goals to one win away at Launceston.

James Cox, Fred Parsons, Solomon Ayunga, Riley Weedon and Kieran Coombs all netted a goal apiece for the Bees.

In the local Tribute Rugby, Dorchester recorded their first win this season at Coburg Road against visitors Chippenham second team, winning the game by 27 points to 18, and Swanage and Wareham beat Frome at Bestwall Park 37 – 24, both in the Southern Counties Division.

In the Tribute Dorset & Wilts Leagues, Blandford lost at home against Oakmeadians by 17 points to 33, Lytchett Minster ran out 36 points to 27 winners at home against Swanage & Wareham second team and league leaders Puddletown surprisingly narrowly lost at home against East Dorset Dockers with a 15 points to 17 scoreline.

In the Dorset Premier Football League, Balti Sports hosted Portland United Reserves at Lynmoor Road and it was the Blues who travelled back to Grove Corner following their six goals to three victory.

On Sunday, Weymouth Football Club’s Women’s team travelled to Weston Super Mare and returned to the Bob Lucas Stadium with all 3 league points in the bank. Keydee Thornicraft scored the only goal of the game in the 12th minute.

The Terras women’s development team beat Bridport Ladies reserves at Redlands by 2 goals to 1.

Fowler and Stone netting both for the Terras.
