Following a public vote, the remarkable Dorset writer and poet Sylvia Townsend Warner will finally be honoured with a long-overdue statue, enriching Dorchester’s literary and visual heritage. She will be the town’s first non-royal statue of a woman, joining the six statues of men that Dorchester already proudly displays.
On Saturday 2nd November a photo call was held in Dorchester’s South Street to launch the crowdfunding appeal which will make the creation of the statue possible. Among those speaking at the event were Anya Pearson, a trustee of ‘Visible Women UK’, who are organising the appeal, and Mark Chutter, Chair of the Thomas Hardy Society who introduced the proceedings…
