Weekend Sports Report

Weymouth Football Club’s senior men’s team did one better than they managed on Bonfire Night when they returned to the Bob Lucas Stadium following their notable draw away against National League South leaders Weston Super Mare. The Terras travelled back to Dorset from Weston again, this time following their 3 goals to 2 FA Trophy victory.

It didn’t come easily and it was all hands to the pumps in the final minutes to keep the Seagulls out, but 3 goals from Charlie Rowan, Tom Bearwish and Brandon Goodship were enough to put the Terras into Monday’s Trophy draw, with the final score WSM 2 vs Weymouth 3.

Dorchester twice came from behind to snatch a late equalizer at the Avenue Stadium, where they hosted Southern Premier League leaders Merthyr Town.

The Martyrs started quickly and looked every bit table toppers as they played the ball around the park almost unchallenged. Still, as the match progressed, the Magpies, spurred on by skipper Jordan Nagalo and veteran Wes Fogden fought their way back into the game and finished strongly.

Merthyr scored first after going close on several occasions through striker Roy Simpson, only for Matt Buse to level on the stroke of halftime.

The Martyrs restored their lead within seconds of the half time re-start, again it was Simpson who did the damage. With time running out for Dorchester, Buse cut in from the right of the Merthyr defence and slotted the ball past Jamie Cogman into the back of the visitors’ net and the points were shared.

In the Wessex Premier League, Portland United went down at Grove Corner, beaten by visitors Andover New Street by 3 goals to 2.

The Blues scores came courtesy of Greg Borthwick and Troy Walbridge.

Bridport travelled to Toridgeside and returned to St Mary’s with all 3 Southwest Peninsular League East points in the bank.

Will Grape and Riley Weeden netted the Bees’s goals, with the T-siders scoring only once.

Other Results.

Beminster Res. 1 vs Bridport Development 5.

Bridport Reserves 2 vs Swanage & Herston 2.

In the Tribute Rugby Southern County League, Dorchester made the short trip to Bestwall Park to lock horns with Swanage & Wareham, but it didn’t go too well for the County Town, who went down by 66 points to 10.

In the Dorset & Wilts Division, Blandford beat East Dorset Dockers at Larksmead by 33 points to 32, Lytchett Minster beat visitors Puddletown by 46 points to 19, Bridport and Oakmeadians met in Bournemouth with the Oaks running out 55 points to 22 victors. Weymouth & Portland won away against Wimborne second team beating their hosts by 34 points to 29.
