Appeal for witnesses following reported robbery in Weymouth

Detectives are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward after an alleged robbery in Weymouth – with one man arrested.

Dorset Police received a report at 6.26am on Wednesday 11 December 2024 of a robbery at the Morrisons Daily store at the Littlemoor Shopping Centre.

It was reported that a member of staff sustained a minor injury during the incident.

Officers attended and carried out detailed enquiries, including searches in the area, CCTV enquiries and an examination of the scene.

A suspected air weapon was located at the scene of the offence.

Following enquiries, a 27-year-old man from Weymouth was arrested on suspicion of robbery and possessing a firearm. He has been released on police bail while enquiries continue.

Detective Inspector Darren Stanton, of Dorset County CID, said: “I fully appreciate this incident will have caused concern in the community and I would like to reassure that we have been carrying out extensive enquiries into what happened, leading to an arrest being made.

“I am now appealing to anyone who was in the area around the relevant time on the morning of Wednesday 11 December 2024 and may have witnessed the incident, or any suspicious activity, to please contact Dorset Police.

“Officers from the local neighbourhood policing team can be approached by anyone with information or concerns about this incident.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55240189267. Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously online at Crimestoppers-uk.org or by calling Freephone 0800 555 111.
