Eight Month Old Ginger Cat ‘Otto’ Rescued after 24 hours in Tree

An eight-month-old ginger cat named Otto is safely back with his owners after spending a nerve-wracking 24 hours stranded high in a tree on Lorton Lane, Weymouth. The dramatic rescue was carried out by Knighton Countryside Management, whose act of kindness has touched hearts across the community.

Otto’s adventure began when his curiosity led him to climb a towering holm oak tree. Despite his owner’s, Jodie Lumber and Elliott Sawyer’s, best efforts to lure him down, Otto remained perched high above, too frightened to move. Calls to the RSPCA and fire service brought no resolution, leaving Jodie desperate to find help.

That’s when Knighton Countryside Management stepped in. Known for their expertise with trees, they took on the unusual task of rescuing the frightened feline. With specialist climbing gear, a cherry picker and a steady hand, the team reached up the 40-foot tree and brought Otto safely back to the ground much to the relief of Elliott and a small group of onlookers who had gathered to watch.

Jodie was overwhelmed with gratitude for the local heroes. Jodie told KeeP 106: “Otto is like family and I was heartbroken watching him stuck up there. When the RSPCA and fire service couldn’t help, Knighton Countryside Management didn’t hesitate. Their kindness and care meant the world to us. Otto is now reunited with Daisy our 15 year old cat, who is much better behaved!”

Elliott added, “Otto is a real character, he has already scaled the Christmas tree in the lounge and brought it to the ground.  He took on a bit more than he could handle climbing this tree! We are so grateful to Knighton Countryside Management.”

Tree surgeons, George Emery and Andy Carr, led the rescue.  George humbly commented: “It’s not every day you get called to save a cat, but we’re always happy to help the community. Seeing Otto safely back with his family was a special moment.”

Otto, unharmed but slightly shaken, is now back at home enjoying plenty of cuddles and extra treats after his ordeal.

This touching story showcases how acts of kindness can make a big difference in local communities. The team at Knighton Countryside Management have gone above and beyond, proving that their skills extend far beyond just trees.
