Christmas Day Power Failure affects homes and businesses in Weymouth

Idris Martin reporting.

A mains electrical fault caused many commercial and domestic properties in the south of Weymouth to lose their power on Christmas Day.

A spokesperson for the Ship Inn on Custom House Quay said: “We have been told that the power could be back on at 5:00 pm, so until then, we can’t serve anyone”.

The proprietors of the White Pepper Indian Restaurant in St Mary Street said, “We planned to open, but without electricity, there isn’t any point!”.

One restauranteur who declined to be named said: “We have to turn families away who reserved a table for their Christmas Dinner weeks ago; we have been told that the power could be back on at 5:00 pm, so we shall just have to keep our fingers crossed. This couldn’t have come a worse time for us”.
