Detectives investigating a report of an assault and threats in Weymouth are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
Dorset Police received a report at around 7.30am on Wednesday 1 January 2025 that two victims – a man and woman – who were sitting in a Fiat Panda in Grosvenor Road were approached by an unknown man in possession of a hammer at around 6am earlier in the day.
The victims attempted to speak to the man, but it was reported that during the incident the male victim got out of the vehicle and was assaulted. He did not get back inside the car.
It is alleged that the suspect got into the passenger seat of the Fiat and demanded that the female victim drove him around the town, including to the Esso garage in King Street. She did not sustain any physical injuries.
Following enquiries, a 41-year-old man from Weymouth was arrested on suspicion of assault, false imprisonment, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and making threats to kill. He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
Detective Constable Liam Moss, of Dorset County CID, said: “This must have been a frightening incident for the victims and a full and detailed investigation is underway.
“I am appealing to anyone who was in the area of Grosvenor Road or King Street during the relevant time period and saw any suspicious activity to please get in touch.
“I am particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have captured anything of relevance on either CCTV or dashcam footage.”
