Only one of our local senior football teams managed to record a win on Saturday, and that was in the Southwest Peninsular League East, where Bridport beat Bovey Tracey away by four goals to two.
Solomon Ayunga, Kieran Daniels, Kieran Coombs and Riley Weedon all scored a goal each for the Bees.
Weymouth hosted Boreham Wood at the Bob Lucas Stadium in an FA Trophy fourth-round tie and trailed by two goals to nil before Andreas Robinson gave them a fighting chance with a late goal. Still, despite the Terras’ efforts, they failed to find an equalizer.
Our Man at the Match said: “Since Warren Feeney has come in to manage the club, the Terras seem to have raised their game, and today they were just unlucky. I thought there was a definite penalty for handball in the area in the first half, but either the referee and his assistant were both unsighted, or he just didn’t agree, but it looked like a penalty to me”.
Dorchester returned from Havant & Waterlooville with a Southern Premier League point following their one-all draw, the Magpies score coming from striker Shaquille Gwengwe, making the final result Havant & Waterlooville 1 vs Dorchester 1.
In the Wessex Premier League, Portland United, under control of their new management partnership of Kyle Critchell and Craig Adams, travelled away to play AFC Stoneham but returned with nothing to show for their efforts, losing the game by four goals to two.
The Blues’ scores by Sam Gadsby and Jamie Cleaver.
The only local women’s game, either football or rugby, that went ahead on Sunday was Dorchester vs Longfleet; the Magpies won by seven goals to nil. Kristina Manktelow, Eliza Allford, Harriett Browne, Namoi Johnson, and Zara Hunt all scored a goal apiece, with Lucy Polley adding two more goals for Dorchester.
The weather decimated the Tribute Rugby League return following its mid-season break, and many games were postponed due to frozen pitches. However, some matches did survive Swanage & Wareham lost at Bestwall, beaten by Devizes by 28 points to 13; Wimborne’s second team beat Blandford at Larksmead by 15 points to 10; Weymouth & Portland avenged their early season defeat at the hands of Puddletown winning at Greenfields by 29 points to 22 and Lytchett Minster lost away at Oakmeadians going down by 39 points to 21.
The Dorset and Wilts Under 18 squad had a great 3rd and final South West Trial match vs Oxfordshire; despite the snow trying to prevent it
Great energy and commitment from the whole squad made this game a very exciting match to watch, and just some better shape and organisation meant Oxfordshire came out on top 25 to 20 – 4 tries to 5.
The D&W boys made their parents, clubs and twin counties proud with a great rugby display.
U18 block done boys it has been a pleasure. Good luck with your rugby journeys from here on.
