Lloyds Bank in Dorchester to close

Lloyds Banking Group have announced that they are to close the Dorchester branch of Lloyds Bank in June 2025.

It is one of 136 branch closures across the country which includes Halifax and Bank of Scotland branches.

The group say the reasons for these closures are that customers are using digital services more and more for their day-to-day banking and are moving from banking in person to using apps on their mobile devices.

Responding to the announcement that Lloyds Bank intends to close their Dorchester branch on 19th June, West Dorset Liberal Democrat MP Edward Morello said:

“I am extremely disappointed that Lloyds have decided to close their Dorchester branch, and even more so that they have decided to do so on such short notice. Residents will have very little time to move to another bank and will have limited options in Dorchester should they want a physical branch to attend. I am especially concerned for more elderly Lloyds customers who rely on being able to visit their bank in person and will now face having to go to Weymouth to do so.”

Mr Morello added “I will be speaking to Cash Access to ensure that a proper review has been conducted and that Dorchester residents will not be further disadvantaged.”
