Weekend Sports Preview

Weymouth Football Club’s senior men’s team head to Priory Lane on Saturday to play league highflyers Eastbourne Borough.

The Sports are in the National League South Play-Off zone in 5 place, while to Terras are currently just one place off the bottom of the league table, and with only 5 league matches remaining and 10 points adrift of safety, only the most committed of Terras’ fans would be predicting a great escape and Weymouth securing their place in the division.

Dorchester, however, are chasing promotion into the National League South.

It looks like Merthyr Town has claimed automatic promotion with the Magpies and 4 other clubs, Totton, Walton & Hersham, Gloucester City, and Havant & Waterlooville, contesting the 4 places in the playoffs.

In the Wessex Premier League, Portland United visit Hamworthy Recreation while Bridport Reserves play Holt United at St Marys’, and the Bees’ Development squad visits Wessex Phonex Reserves.

In this season’s final Tribute Rugby Leagues fixtures, Dorchester takes the road to Melksham, and Swanage & Wareham visit Combe Down, both in the Southern Counties league.

Weymouth & Portland play Bridport at Brewery Fields, Puddletown are away against Dorset & Wiltshire South league champions Oakmeadians, and Swanage & Wareham’s second team plays East Dorset Dockers at Bestwall Park.

On Sunday, Weymouth Football Club’s women lock horns with Saltash women at the Bob Lucas Stadium. Dorchester Ladies travel to Merley, and Bridport Ladies Reserves travel to Wimborne.

Weymouth & Portland’s women’s rugby team host Havant women at Monmouth Avenue all matches kick off at 2:00pm.

If you think that you have the quality to represent Dorset & Wilts in their County squad in this season’s Bill Beaumont RFU County Championship, which climaxes with the two finalists running out at Twickenham, then the County Selectors are holding an open session at Salisbury Club on Wednesday 23rd of April starting at 7 00 pm, just turn up and make yourself known to one of the management team.

Dorset & Wilts are 3-time winners of this competition.

Result Dorset & Wilts. 43 pts v Surrey 22. The Twin Counties players celebrate in front of the Twickenham crowd
