Weymouth Town Council awards grants to various local organisations

Weymouth Town Council’s latest news release states that a range of grants were approved by Councillors on the Finance and Governance Committee last night (Wednesday 23rd July.)

Grants include:

£5,000 to Activate Performing Arts towards Sonnet of Samsara, a new international outdoor performance that will be the finale to the Beach of Dreams event on Weymouth seafront, the Esplanade and Town Bridge on the 19th and 20th September.

£5,000 to Artwey towards funding a number of arts projects as part of Crossing Different Paths. This is a creative celebration of Weymouth and Portland’s rich cultural diversity as part of Dorset Towns of Culture 2025.

£1,634 to St Edmunds Church on Lane House Rocks Road is used for a number of community uses and the money will go towards things like replacing worn tables with new ones, new fencing, and a replacement air fryer for a breakfast club.

Other funding agreed by the committee included £20,000 for a Service Level Agreement to The Lantern Trust charity. This will be provided over four years, with £5,000 each year to part fund a housing advisor.

Weymouth is twinned with Louviers in France and The Louviers Society was also awarded £1,000 to support their work in 2025/2026.

Cllr David Civil, Chair of Finance and Governance Committee, said: “From arts and cultural events to providing support to homeless charity The Lantern Trust, the Finance and Governance Committee approved a range of funding last night.

“If you’re a community group in need of some extra help with funding, visit the Council’s website to see if you are eligible for a grant.”
