On 15th August the nation commemorated the 80th anniversary of VJ Day (Victory over Japan) which marked the end of WWII. In Dorchester the occasion was marked by Dorset Council with a ceremony held at the Memorial Area outside County Hall. Those attending were welcomed by the Chair of Dorset Council, Cllr Stella Jones, and the Master of Ceremonies was Grant Parrott, a past County Chairman of the Royal British Legion. During the ceremony the Bovington Military Wives Choir performed a number of songs and local military history writer Christopher Jary gave a fascinating, and moving, account of the Dorset Regiment’s significant role in the Burma Campaign during WWII. As you will hear, several descendants of military personnel from that campaign were in attendance at this service.
