Tragedy as woman dies in crash on the A35

Police officers are appealing for anyone with information to come forward following a fatal road traffic collision on the A35 in West Dorset – with one man being arrested.

The incident, which happened near Askerswell at 12.05am on Wednesday 22 October 2025, involved a white BMW and a grey BMW.

Very sadly, a 37-year-old woman from Bournemouth was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed and the coroner has been notified.

A 28-year-old man from Plymouth was taken to hospital with life-changing injuries.

A 35-year-old man from Poole has been arrested on suspicion of a driving offence. He was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The road was closed for several hours to enable emergency services to attend the scene.

Police Sergeant Leanne Howes, of the Roads Policing Team, said: “Tragically, a woman has lost her life in this collision and our thoughts are with her loved ones.

“We are investigating the circumstances of what happened and would like to hear from any witnesses who have not already spoken to police, or anyone with relevant dashcam footage.

“Road closures were put in place while an examination of the scene was carried out and we are aware that they would have greatly impacted motorists. I would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding while they were in place.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police online, via email at scit@dorset.pnn.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting incident number 22:003. Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously online using its website or by calling Freephone 0800 555 111.
