Appeal following fatal road traffic collision near Dorchester

Dorset Police received a report at 5.34pm on Wednesday 22 October 2025 of a road traffic collision involving a black Kia Niro and a grey Peugeot 107 on the A37 near Maiden Newton and officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

Emergency services attended and very sadly the driver of the Peugeot, a 49-year-old woman from Weymouth, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin has been informed.

The road was closed to allow emergency services to respond to the incident and for specialist officers to examine the scene.

Police Sergeant Mike Burt, of the serious collision investigation team, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who sadly died in this collision.

“An investigation is underway into this incident and I am appealing for anyone who saw what happened and has not already spoken to police to please come forward.

“Also, I am keen to speak to any motorists who captured dashcam footage of the manner of driving of the vehicles involved or of the moments leading up to the collision to please contact us. You may have vital information to assist our enquiries.

“Finally, I would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding while the road closures were in place.”
