Weekend Sports Preview

All of our highest status Non-League Football teams are on the road this weekend.

Dorchester travel to Winklebury Complex to lock horns with Basingstoke for the second time this week, for a FA Trophy tie.

On Tuesday evening the Magpies met the Stoke at the Avenue Stadium and won the Southern Premier League game one nil courtesy of a late Joe Parker strike so the Dorchester faithful will be crossing their fingers that Joe can maybe repeat that feat again.

Joe Parker scored the late winner against Basingstoke Town on Tuesday evening.

In the Southern Premier League Weymouth visit Bulpit Lane to play Hungerford Town.

The Crusaders are currently in 15th place in the league table while the Terras are 3 places below and if Weymouth could return with all 3 league points they would leapfrog over their hosts.

Portland United visit the Brian Whitehead ground to play Downton, the Blues sit in 7th place in the Wessex Premier League while the Robins are 14th with both sides having played 11 matches, so the current form would point towards Portland getting a positive result.

Bridport play Spurs away, not at The Tottenham Hotspurs’ Stadium, but The Recreation Ground where the Bees’ will meet Newton Abbot Spurs.

Bridport Reserves entertain Hamworthy United Reserves at home.

On Sunday Weymouth Football Club’s Women’s team play Feniton women away and Bridport Ladies host Cobham Sports Ladies at St. Mary’s.

Dorchester Football club have signed midfielder Connor Underhill. The central midfielder joins on loan from National League side Eastleigh, where he joined the club as an U16 player before progressing through the ranks to the senior squad, signing his first professional contract last December and going on to make 18 National League appearances so far – including a man of the match performance in his first league start at home to Ebbsfleet back in March.

There are no Tribute Ale League rugby fixtures this weekend however, on Sunday, the 26th the Dorset & Wilts Under 18 squad rugby selectors are hosting a Development / Trial Day at Marlborough Rugby Club with registration starting at 9 45 am for a coaches’ briefing at 10.
