A Dorchester poppy display returns for the fifth year, but at a different location

2024 marked the forth year that Fiona Matthews had put on a poppy display outside her home in Monmouth Road, Dorchester to raise funds for the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund. This year Fiona is putting on another display, but since she has moved house a friend has agreed for her house to be the venue, not far away from Fiona’s former home.

The new display features thousands of poppies which have been crafted into in the shape of a figure titled The Unknown Airman and can be viewed at 17 Culliford Road in Dorchester.

Fiona said:

“I come from a military family – both of my Grandfathers served in the Royal Navy, my Uncle was a Marine and my Dad served in the Royal Air Force. I have a passion for planes so am raising money for the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund.

“If you would like to donate please put your money in one of the envelopes provided and post it through the letterbox, or visit Just Giving and put my name, Fiona Matthews, to donate.”

Here is the link to Fiona’s Just Giving page if you wish to donate:

As you can see from the second photo below, Fiona has written a poem, ‘Where Poppies Bloom’, to accompany the display.
