Weekend Sports Preview

From here on in until the final game of the season, every match is a cup final if both of our local Southern Premier League Clubs are to survive in the division.

Weymouth face runaway league leaders Walton & Hersham at the Bob Lucas Stadium on Saturday, but their playing records couldn’t differ more.

The Terras have played 26 matches, tallying up 22 league points, while the Swans played 23 games with 60 league points; however, Weymouth do come into this one off the back of a five goals to one victory at Sherborne in the semifinal of the Dorset Senior Cup, but W&H will pose a much bigger threat than the north Dorset club did on Wednesday evening.

Dorchester do have two games in hand over Weymouth, but they are languishing deep inside the drop zone, just one place off the foot of the league table.

The Magpies, who lost three one away at Havant & Waterlooville in midweek, host seventh-placed Chertsey at the Avenue Stadium on Saturday.

In the Wessex Premier League, Portland United play hosts to Petersfield, meanwhile Bridport welcome Torrington to St. Mary’s in the Southwest Peninsular League East, and the Bees reserves head east to play Balti Sports at Cranford Avenue for a Dorset Premier League fixture.
