A Triple Whammy for a New Business in Town

The recent Dorchester Business Awards Ceremony, held at The Corn Exchange, was a celebration of local business success with over eighty business people excited to see who this year’s winners would be.

Attendees at the event were in the company of Town Mayor, Cllr Andy Canning all enjoying the wonderful celebration of the town’s thriving business community. The Overall Business of the Year Award, sponsored by ActionCOACH, was won by triple winner the bookshop Teasel & Skylark , who also received awards for New Business of the Year, and Independent Business.

The organisers thanked all the local businesses that entered again this year with more than ever and also offered special praise for the generosity of the sponsors that help the awards to happen shining a light on local business success and excellence.

The categories on the day included Independent Business, sponsored by Dorchester BID, and the winners were Avoca Group, Loco Loves Boutique and Switched on Electrical. Hospitality winners were the new Portuguese restaurant Santos + Co in Brewery Square and award-winning bistro The Square Bistro in Poundbury. Other Poundbury winners receiving awards on the day were The Florist of Poundbury, estate agents Hull Gregson Hull, Wellbeing Practice, Casterbridge Chiro, Minuteman Press, Interior Tailors, and Dorset Neuro Rehab. Brewery Square businesses fared well with many winners including MUTT Everything Dog, Nikki’s Little Play Café, Halo Fine Art, Victoria Ann Bridal and Memory Lane all celebrating on the day.

Other businesses and organisations that left with a smile were Ellie Smeaton Photography, Kooky Bloom Jewellery, Home-Start Wessex, Jordans Jewellers, Creative Clay For All, Dorchester Arts Down to Earth and Hays Travel.

Organiser Lindsay Jones said ‘ Yet again the awards highlighted many hard working and innovative local businesses and the people behind them. It is a tough world at the moment for business, but what we saw today confirmed that the business community in Dorchester is strong and vibrant which is good for the town’
