All but one of our local Non League Football teams won their matches this weekend.
Dorchester overcame the challenge of visitors Evesham, beating their guests by a goal to nil, scored by striker Joe Parker.
Portland hosted Andover New Street at Grove Corner and put two goals into the back of their visitors’ net, one each from Greg Borthwick and Jacob Coomes, with no reply from Andover.
Bridport were on the road away in Ilfracombe and returned with all three Southwest Peninsular League East points following their four goals to one victory.
Isaac House netted twice for the Bees, with a goal each coming courtesy of Riley Weedon and Solomon Ayunga.
Weymouth hosted Havant & Waterlooville at the Bob Lucas Stadium and went a goal down early in the first half when the Hawks wing back Freddie Taylor beat the Terras’ defence with a far post header.
The closest that Weymouth came to equalising was from a free kick late in the second half, but the Hawks’ keeper pulled off a spectacular save to keep his team in front, a lead they held until the final whistle, to make the final score Weymouth nil Havant & Waterlooville one.
The event of the match came midway through the second half when the Terras’ keeper, Max Evans, was dismissed for a second yellow card offence.
Then, 50-year-old Weymouth Director of Football and former goalkeeper Jason Matthews came on to take the position between the sticks for the remainder of the game.
Our Man at the Match said,” Weymouth upped their game after the break, but with Brandon Goodship missing there was nobody in front of goal that looked like scoring”.
“The first Evans yellow card was a bit harsh, but the second was deserved. At least Jason kept a clean sheet when he came on”.
