Jeannette Hampstead and her husband Graham have been running a much-needed and excellent rescue and rehabilitation centre for one of Britain’s most loved, and sadly most endangered mammals: the hedgehog. A visit to their home and the centre in Hazelbury Bryan reveals the extent of Jeannette’s dedication to getting injured hedgehogs, where possible, back to where they were found once they’re back in good shape.

Hedgehogs eat a range of invertebrates and other small creatures, including earwigs. Earwigs mothers are exceptional in the insect world, as they care for their eggs and their young. Entomologist Dr. Christopher Terrell Nield tells their story – and reads an earwig poem he wrote!…
