Witness appeal following reported assault in Weymouth

Detectives investigating an alleged assault in Weymouth that left a man with serious injuries are appealing for any witnesses to come forward. Dorset Police was called at around 5am on Wednesday 4 September 2019 to a report of an assault outside the Rumshack nightclub in Maiden Street.

It was reported that a man aged in his 30s had been punched to the head and was being treated by the ambulance service. He sustained a fractured skull but his injury is not believed to be life-threatening.

Following enquiries, a 28-year-old Portland man has been arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent and is assisting detectives with their investigation.

Detective Sergeant Simon Austin, of Weymouth CID, said: “We are continuing to investigate this incident and I am appealing to any witnesses or anyone with information to contact us.

“I am particularly keen to speak to a man wearing a white top who was seen in the vicinity around the time of the incident.”
