Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service’s Education Team have produced online resources for families to assist with home-learning and helping younger children understand how they can stay safe at home during the coronavirus pandemic.
Each week a new fire safety topic is introduced, based around a story which children can listen to alongside activities. The resources include work and colouring sheets as well as “Meet the Firefighter” challenges and “Glue and Make” videos.
Education Coordinator Tess Cross said: “Due to the increase in time spent at home, we would like to help parents, carers and children understand how they can stay safe and the importance of fire safety within the home.
To help children understand what they must do to help them stay safe during this pandemic, we have introduced the Covid19 Mini Superheroes, who show children how they can be superheroes too. We hope that the variety of resources will appeal to children and help them understand what they can do to stay safe and well.
On behalf of the Chief Fire Officer we would like to say a massive thank you to all school and pre-school staff who are looking after the children of key workers who may still be going into school, so that their parents and carers can continue to provide essential and emergency cover during the pandemic.”
