Weldmar Hospicecare is delighted to announce that its Day Services will resume in Dorset on Monday 6th July.
The service was suspended in March following the outbreak of Covid-19, but revised arrangements will see a number of patients able to return next week.
All Day Services will take place at Trimar House in Weymouth on a Monday and Tuesday. Separate groups will attend each morning and afternoon session, and whilst most staff based at Trimar House are still working from home, it allows Day Services patients to spread out safely through the building.
Jenny Wood, Day Services Lead, says, “We’ve been keeping in touch with all our Day Services patients with weekly calls, but we are so excited to see them face to face. We are so lucky to build such lovely relationships with our patients. We have really missed them!
“The past three months have been very challenging for those self-isolating. For those patients who may have already felt lonely and socially isolated, it’s been really tough. To be able to come back together again, albeit with a slightly different set up, allows us to help our patients feel connected to one another again, and will provide that much missed interaction. We can’t wait!”
Weldmar’s Family Services will also be using Trimar House for face to face bereavement and counselling meetings, which have been taking place via phone calls or video conferencing since March.
Prior to lockdown, Day Services also ran in community hospitals in Shaftesbury, Bridport, and Blandford, as well as the charity’s own Inpatient Unit in Dorchester, but facilities to run them here are not yet available due to their own Covid-19 safety measures.
Despite the resumption of Day Services and face to face Family Support, the charity’s funding is still being severely hit by cancelled fundraising events, and some charity shops still not able to open. Weldmar is asking supporters to stand by them to help them stay resilient.
