Public Health update on COVID-19 cases in Dorset
Our case rates remain high, so we need everyone to follow the rules during lockdown to bring these case rates down so we can return to fewer restrictions.
Between 25 and 31 October, there were 390 confirmed positive cases in the Dorset Council area.

What to do if you feel unwell, or live with someone who is unwell
Get a test now and don’t leave home for at least 10 days if you have either:
- a high temperature – you feel hot to touch on your chest or back
- a new, continuous cough – this means you’ve started coughing repeatedly
- loss or change in sense or smell or taste
You could be fined if you do not stay at home and self-isolate following a positive test for COVID-19
Financial help may be available to you if you are self-isolating and on a low income and/or receiving benefits.

Household Recycling Centres across Dorset to remain open during lockdown
All 10 of our Household Recycling Centres (HRCs, or “the tip”) will remain open daily during the latest lockdown period, but restrictions will apply on site.
What about other council services?
Here’s how the November lockdown will affect our services:
- Household recycling centres, refuse and recycling collections, garden waste collection, commercial waste will all stay open and services will continue
- Social care services will continue
- Public toilets and car parks will stay open
- Beaches, parks, skate parks and our green spaces will remain open for public use
- Registration Services (registering a birth or death) will continue, but weddings will not be held and funerals continue to be restricted to 30 mourners
- Our country parks’ open spaces will stay open for people to enjoy but visitor centres are closed and the restaurants will only offer takeaway services
- Schools, colleges and childcare remain open
- Leisure Centres are closed
- Library buildings are closed but our book lending scheme will continue online, we have restarted our Order and Collect service and there is a Home Library Service for people who are housebound.
- Tourist Information Centres are closed
- History centre and archives are closed

The NHS is still open for business
- You can still contact your GP, 111 online or call 111 for help and to get the care you need.
- If you are told to go to hospital, you must go.
- You should continue to attend your appointments, unless you have been told not to attend.
- If it’s a serious or life-threatening emergency, call 999.
- You can order your repeat prescriptions on the NHS App and through your GP surgery or pharmacy’s online service, where available.
- If you need to collect a prescription and have coronavirus symptoms or are self-isolating at home – please arrange for a friend, relative or volunteer to collect for you.
