Anyone struggling to pay their bills or worried about money is urged to get help straight away. Dorset Citizens Advice has a team of advisers ready to talk through the options available for managing debt and unpaid bills.
Daniel Cadisch from Citizens Advice Dorset said: “It’s important you get help straight away if you are already in debt or worried about your unpaid bills. The first bill you’re not able to pay is the time to make that call. Don’t wait for the final reminders as it’s often much harder to resolve once it gets to that stage.
“Our team of advisers are waiting to help you now. They can talk you through contacting the organisations you owe money to and the possible options, such as paying smaller amounts or taking extended payment breaks. “They’ll also explain which bills can cause you more problems if you don’t pay them, the potential consequences and extra support that may be available.”
If you are struggling to pay your bills, Citizens Advice can provide free, confidential advice on a wide range of financial issues including: Council tax payments, Managing bill payments, Loans and overdrafts, Unauthorised lenders (loan sharks), Claiming benefits, Managing living costs.
Dorset Council is working closely with Citizens Advice through its Reaching Out campaign which signposts to the support available for residents who are struggling.
Cllr Laura Miller, Portfolio Holder for Adult Social Care and Health, said: “Whether your working hours have reduced, you’ve lost your job or your business is struggling, not having the same money coming in is hard right now.
“But it’s important to get help straight away if you’re worried about money. Organisations like Citizens Advice have a raft of knowledge. There are many ways to manage your bills and they can talk you through all the options in complete confidence.
