The Women’s Action Network Dorset (WAND) are hosting Dorset Women’s Day virtually for the first time for our “Zoom Into Wellbeing” event. This will take place on Saturday 6th March, 10am-5.30pm so please save the date!
The day will involve a series of 50-minute workshops over Zoom, all generally themed around self-care and wellbeing. Things have been difficult for all of us recently, and looking after our own wellbeing has never been more important. WAND are working on finalizing the full programme with their workshop leaders, which will be shared on social media and their website over the coming weeks. There will also be an “after party” in the early evening, and a luxurious Neals Yard home spa session will be open at 8pm as a bonus for 10 attendees (on a first-come-first-serve basis).
A WAND committee member said “Things have been challenging for us all recently, and we know that for many women it can be really difficult to find the time for some much needed self-care. We are really looking forward to hosting an event dedicated to wellbeing, which encourages us to be kind to ourselves at the same time as bringing women in Dorset together”.
WAND is a community voluntary group committed to promoting women’s rights and wellbeing, raising money for women’s services, and providing opportunities for women in Dorset to socialise and share their skills. In previous years, Dorset Women’s Day was hosted in Dorchester and was very popular. Although it’s not possible to get together in person this year, they hope to recreate the lively, supportive community spirit that the day is known for in an online space.
“Being absolutely truthful, good mental health and wellbeing, self-care and self-love have seemed elusive at many points over the past 12 months”, says Tracey West, a Patron of WAND. “The unwavering support of my – now almost exclusively online – tribe, has been a life-saver. WAND sits at the base of that unbreakable sisterhood of support, with its solid foundations firmly rooted in the earth. Tender words of encouragement, uplifting notes of empowerment and heartfelt messages of love will undoubtedly continue to keep us going through whatever 2021 throws at us.”
WAND are looking forward to sharing the full programme of relaxing, fun, wellness-based sessions, which will give all participants the chance to connect with one another and maybe even learn something new. They’ll also be creating a playlist of fun, empowering music by women to share on the day, specially curated from your suggestions for songs.
WAND has also picked the Shine Project as their chosen charity to fundraise for this year – they do some marvellous work to support the wellbeing, confidence and self-esteem of teen girls across Dorset. The suggested donation is £3 per person per Dorset Women’s Day workshop attended, but you can give what you are able to. All will still be welcome to attend the workshops even if you can’t donate at this time. They have a live GoFundMe page for donations which will all go directly to the Shine Project.
Please note that booking in advance will be required for the workshops, to help in managing numbers and coordinate the day. For more information and updates, please see the event page on Facebook and their website. You can also contact WAND at wanddorset@gmail.com
