Following the persistent rain that Dorset has experienced, and more yet to come, the Environment Agency have issued a number of warning across the county.
Groundwater levels in West Dorset have been receding following the dry, cold weather we experienced last week. With recent rainfall and further rainfall forecast over the coming week, the Environment Agency expect groundwater levels to begin to rise again.
Pumping equipment and property level protection measures should be set out where available.
The Broadwey river gauge and levels at the Stinsford river gauge remain high as a result of high groundwater conditions and recent rainfall.
The forecast for the next few days is for more unsettled weather with further rainfall. The agency believe there is a possibility of flooding for the River Wey to Radipole Lake, Preston Brook and River Jordan. River levels can rise very quickly in response to heavy rainfall and we are closely monitoring the situation.
Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and see the GOV.UK website for a 5 day flood forecast. Environment Agency staff will be clearing trash screens and checking for blockages.
