Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward after an incident involving a dog near Wareham.
The incident occurred at around 8.30am on Sunday 18 April 2021 while the victim – a man aged in his 70s – was running on a path near to Sherford Bridge toward Sugar Hill.
The man saw a female dog walker with a girl and young woman approaching with two Standard Poodles. One was described as large, dark brown in colour and off the lead and the second dog was described as younger than the first, light brown and on a lead.
The man stopped running and waited for the group to pass, but when he started running again the dogs began to chase him and the larger dog jumped up and put it’s paws on the man’s shoulders. The man was concerned that the dog was going to bite his throat so he pushed it away.
The woman called after it shouting “Gunner”, but did not make any attempt to retrieve the dog. She was described as white, aged in her 40s, approximately five feet six inches tall and of medium build with medium length hair and was wearing a light blue jacket.
The girl was aged between 10 and 15 years old and the second person was described as being aged between 15 and 20 years old.
Police Constable Jennie Sykes-Martin, of Dorset Police, told KeeP 106: “While the victim in this incident did not sustain any physical injuries, he was put in real fear of his safety and left feeling very shaken up.
“I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident, or recognises the dogs and their owner from the description given, to please get in touch.”
