Strong winds to hit the County

Strong winds, heavy showers with some large sea swells are going to make sea conditions rough for a couple of days.

There are early warnings around our coast from the Met office for the next few days. Please take great care if you are going to look at the waves.

No photo is worth your life, it only takes 15cm of water to knock you off your feet! Please keep back from cliff edges, piers, harbour walls and other exposed areas if it’s choppy.

If the sea is rough, don’t go in. If the conditions change whilst in the water, get out and wait until it’s calm and safe.

Always prepare for the changeable weather.

Take a fully charged phone when you are out and about so that you can call for help if you need it. Let someone know where you are going and wear the most appropriate clothing.

Stick to a lifeguarded beach and listen to their advice, they are expertly trained professionals and know the seas like the back of their hands.

Visit the RNLI for an up to date list of current lifeguarded beaches: rnli.org/find-my-nearest/lifeguarded-beaches

If you are going to the beach always make sure you are aware of the tides. The sea can move quickly and if not careful you could get cut off by the tide – www.tidetimes.org.uk/

If you see someone at risk or you need help at the coast or near the sea, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
