Weekend Sport Report

Rugby – Weymouth & Portland rugby club kicked off their Tribute Dorset & Wilts Division 1 South season a week late away against Lytchett Minster after last Saturday’s match against East Dorset Dockers was cancelled and the Seahorses began as they plan to continue this season by winning 34 points to 23. They crossed the whitewash 5 times with tries from Andy Bowditch, Tim Comben, Louis Allan, Will Quick & Joe Gibson. Hamish Jeffcott added 3 conversions to a penalty.

In the same division Bridport had a home walk over against Bournemouth 3rd team and Oakmeadians overcame visitors Swanage & Wareham A XV, 38 – 0.

In Tribute Southern Counties South Dorchester travelled to Royal Wootton Bassett to play their Extra First team and eventually went down by 33 points to 24. North Dorset beat visitors Swanage & Wareham by 27 points to 14 and Combe Down scored 47 points at home against visitors Blandford’s 10.

Football – Our local teams had mixed fortunes with Portland United going into the next round FA Vase draw with a 3 goals to 1 victory against visitors Hythe & Dibden and Bridport won at St. Mary’s beating Petersfield 2 – 0, also in the FA Vase.

In the National League South Weymouth went down at home beaten 2 – 0 by visitors Dover and in the Southern league Dorchester travelled to Hanwell Town and were edged out 2 – 1, their only score coming from striker Alfie Stanley.

On Sunday at the Bob Lucas Stadium, Weymouth women’s team beat visitor Paulton Rovers Women 4 – 1, their scores coming from Dani Ackerman Grace Billing with Kristina Manktelow chipping in with 2 more.
