Weekend Sports Report

Football – Weymouth football club progress into next week’s FA Cup draw following their victory over visitors Welling at the Bob Lucas Stadium on Saturday. Before the game kicked off the Terras manager Bobby Wilkinson announced the signings of three new players, defender Ben Gerring, striker Tyler Forbes and goalkeeper Zaki Oualah. Skipper Tom Bearwish netting once for the Terras with Bradley Ash adding two more to make the final score Weymouth 3, Welling nil.

Dorchester had to come from behind twice to snatch victory against Harrow Borough at the Avenue Stadium. The visitors were a well-organized side with some quality ball players, but it was Magpies who took the honours when super sub Sahq Gwengwe stroked the ball between the legs of West Ham loanee keeper Jacob Knightbridge into the empty net. Olaf Koszela netted first for Dorchester with Alfie Stanley converting a penalty kick late in the second half, then came Gwengwe’s effort to send the visitors home with nothing to show for their efforts.

In the Wessex League Portland United crossed the Solent to play Cows Sports and returned to the mainland with a point drawing the game nil nil. While in South Western Peninsular League East, Bridport drew three goals to three with hosts Torridgeside.
On Sunday Weymouth women’s team travelled to Fleet Town women in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup and returned to Dorset with four goals to nil win. The scores coming from Dani Ackerman (two), Kristina Manktelow and Sophie Bonfield.

Local Rugby – Weymouth & Portland played hosts to Tribute Dorset & Wilts Division 1 South league leaders Oakmeadians at Monmouth Avenue and trailed by 10 points to nil at the end of the first quarter, but then rallied and eventually won the game by 15 points to 10.

Scott Greaney and Tim Comben both crossed the whitewash for the Seahorses with Hamish Jeffcott adding a penalty goal to a conversion.
