The recent yellow warning of rain for the south, predicted by the Met Office, resulted in rainwater running off the fields in Burton Bradstock and turned Bredy Road into a torrent of running water.
Some motorists tried their luck and drove their vehicles into the flood in an attempt to access the main Weymouth to Bridport coast road.
But for two of them, their luck ran out, the driver of a black Mercedes saloon car on holiday in the area got just about 10 metres into the flood before his car’s engine cut out when water flooded the the car’s electronic control unit with the electric handbrake locking on.
A local farmer towed him out of the water with a tractor leaving the stranded motorist to await the arrival of an emergency rescue service with a low-loader to take him and his family to a local garage.
A white van man’s luck ran out as well when his Mercedes also broke down in the flood.
A second white van was successful in driving through the flooded road.
