Weymouth left it late to salvage a Nation League South point against second place Aveley at the Bob Lucas Stadium on Saturday.
Trailing to a 24th minute Jalen Jones strike and having twice had goals ruled out for offside the Terras fans had to wait until 6 minutes before the final whistle to grab the equaliser when visiting defender Charliee Hughes placed the ball wide of his own keeper and into his own net.
Our Man at the Match said, “It was very much a game of 2 halves. After the break the Terras took control and played some quality football, Weymouth had the ball in the Aveley net twice and I still can’t get my head around why they were both ruled out for offside”.
He added, “There didn’t appear to be 15 places between the 2 clubs and there were some good performances from the Weymouth players, but in my humble opinion the Terras’ Man of the Match was Anthony Cheshire, he never stopped running for the entire 90 minutes of the game”.
In the Southern Premier League Dorchester travelled to Salisbury and despite taking an early lead through Will Fletcher the Magpies eventually went down by 3 goals to 2, Shaq Gwengwe netting the Magpies second.
Inclusivity Day at Portland United v Andover New Street, hence the Rainbow Laces
It was Inclusivity Day at Grove Corner where Portland United hosted Andover New Street for a Wessex League Fixture and despite conceding the first goal the Blues drew level through striker Ryan McKechnie just before half time, then with both sides going close after the break it was that man McKechnie again who snatched the winner for Portland a minute into added on time.
The ball fell to McKechnie, he controlled it then struck it off the sweet spot of his boot on the half volley and it flew past the visiting custodian into the back of the net from fully 25 yards out, a goal deserving as the winner of this hotly contested and very close contest where either side could have gathered in all 3 points.
In the Dorset Premier League Bridport Reserves entertained Blandford United at St. Mary’s, but it’s the visitors who travelled back to central Dorset with all 3 points in the bank.
United outscored their hosts by 6 goals to 3.
In the Tribute Dorset & Wilts rugby league Oakmeadians beat visitors Blandford by 24 points to 18.
On Sunday Weymouth Women’s Development team played Blandford Ladies away and ran out 6 goals to 2 winners, their scores coming from Ellia Webb and Lily Dowdell with 2 goals each and Bianca Osborne and Zara Hunt with one goal apiece.
