Witness appeal following alleged assault at pub in Weymouth

Officers investigating an alleged assault at a pub in Weymouth are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

Dorset Police received a report at around 9.20pm on Saturday 25 November 2023 that a man had been assaulted outside the Bridge Inn pub in Bridge Inn Lane, Preston.

It is reported that the victim – a man in his 50s – was involved in a verbal altercation with two young men earlier in the evening who were also visiting the pub. Later in the evening, the victim left the pub and was attacked by the men, sustaining injuries to his back, hand, face and head.

Officers attended the incident and following enquiries, a 20-year-old man from Weymouth was arrested on suspicion of assault. He has been released on police bail as officers continue their investigation. A second man has attended a voluntary police interview.

Police Constable Thomas Pocock, of Weymouth police, said: “We are continuing to investigate this incident and I am appealing to anyone who was in the pub or around the area of Bridge Inn Lane at the time and has information to help my enquiries to please get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55230186288. Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously online at Crimestoppers-uk.org or by calling Freephone 0800 555 111.
