A Call to Arms – football supporters to the rescue

Southwest Peninsular League East club Bridport put out an appeal to their most loyal supporters to pitch up at their St. Mary’s Stadium at 9:30 am on Saturday morning to ensure that the Bees’ home match against Sidmouth Town can go ahead.

Club chairman Adrian Scadding said: “So far this season we have lost 18 games to the weather, 6 first team, 5 reserves, 5 women’s and 2 veteran matches have all called been off because the playing surface has been flooded.

“We put out an appeal on X, previously known as Twitter, for the fans to answer the call to arms and bring their own forks and they turned up in force for which we at the club are very grateful.”
