Trustees needed for Citizens Advice Central Dorset

Citizens Advice Central Dorset are looking for new trustees to join its charity trustee board. The charity is focussed on providing information and advice for local people across communities in Dorset  to help solve the problems they face in these challenging times. They are in the frontline of supporting people with the cost of living crisis and more people than ever need support as well as campaigning on the issues that affect everybody.

Offering free, independent and impartial advice to anyone in our local communities, Citizens Advice Central Dorset is used by about 750 people per week, with increasingly complex issues. There has been a significant increase in people seeking information about charitable support and food banks. In 2024/25, we helped secure £8 million in income for our clients.

Citizens Advice Central Dorset work across the central Dorset area covering Dorchester, Weymouth and Portland, Gillingham, Sherborne and Blandford and are supported by volunteers who are at the heart of the communities they serve. It is are a local, independent charity but with the benefit of being part of the influential national organisation, Citizens Advice. 

The charity’s trustees shape strategy and give direction, working with the Chief Officer and other staff.  The board of trustees come from a variety of backgrounds who all have the passion and dedication to make a positive difference for people.

Current opportunities within the trustee board are:

  • Trustee – with financial/business knowledge to support the treasurer
  • Trustee- with risk management knowledge

The charity welcomes people from all backgrounds with a range of skills and experience as training will be provided. Trustee roles are voluntary, unpaid appointments, although reasonable travel expenses will be paid. Each role provides you with a great deal of experience and satisfaction, the opportunity to develop your skills and use your expertise and knowledge.

Becoming a trustee is an exciting opportunity to help lead a service that is in increasing demand and making a real difference to clients and local communities.
