New Chief Executive appointed to lead Dorset HealthCare

Andy Willis, Chair of Dorset HealthCare, has announced the appointment of Eugine Yafele as the Trust’s next Chief Executive, following approval by its Council of Governors.

Andy said: “Eugine is a highly experienced leader with a wealth of experience since he started his NHS career as a nurse in London and has had a key role in the significant improvements made at Dorset HealthCare since he joined in 2014.

“Throughout our rigorous selection process, including an extensive UK and international candidate search, Eugine demonstrated that he has the experience, values and commitment to continue our journey to becoming an outstanding provider of NHS services.”

Eugine, who is currently Deputy Chief Executive at Dorset HealthCare, has held a number of senior NHS posts, including Head of Mental Health in Northamptonshire and Deputy Chief Nurse at Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

He will take up his new role early in 2019, following the departure of current Chief Executive Ron Shields, who announced his retirement in October after five years at the Trust and 38 years in the NHS overall.

Eugine said: “I am absolutely delighted to be appointed Chief Executive of Dorset HealthCare. The improvements in quality and patient experience that have been made in recent years are down to the hard work and commitment of our staff, who have continually shown their passion to get the very best for the people we serve.

“With the significant support of our Council of Governors and Board of Directors, and by working closely with our partners, I am confident that Dorset HealthCare will continue on the journey to excellence and deliver personalised and integrated care to the people of Dorset.”

Andy added: “This is a very important appointment for me and for us as an organisation. Our Chief Executive must have the vision, determination and ability to inspire and lead improvements in the quality and safety of services, and in the experience of everyone who comes in to contact with Dorset HealthCare – whether patient, staff, public or partner.

“I have every confidence that Eugine is the right person for Dorset HealthCare and will be an excellent Chief Executive.”
