The Prince of Wales School in Dorchester has unveiled a stunning and thoughtful piece of artwork by former pupil
Zak Trevett as part of it’s commitment to the Plastic Free Dorchester Campaign.
The mural, part of a two-piece commission by Thomas Hardye Sixth Former Zak, is inspired by the school’s Green Flag Eco-School status.
Headteacher Mr. Gary Spracklen explains, ‘The Eco-Schools programme guides schools along a pathway of sustainable improvements, helping them to enhance the school surroundings, save money and reduce their impact on the environment. The work is led by pupil action teams who co-ordinate eco projects around the school. It’s a chance for pupils to not only learn about and take action on today’s environmental challenges but also to practise leadership skills like teamwork and public speaking, and help build a thriving school community.
Zak’s artwork helps us to focus on the ‘Why?’ of our Green Flag Eco-Schools programme and reminds our children (and adults) of the importance of their work’.
Speaking about his work, Zak said, ‘I loved my time learning at The Prince of Wales School and it is nice to be able to give something back. I enjoyed completing what is my biggest commission to date and look forward to returning to the school to complete stage two of the project in the Summer Term of 2019. The Prince of Wales School is an inspirational learning community that I am proud to be still connected to’.
Jamie, Year 4 pupil at The Prince of Wales School, speaking about Zak’s work said, ‘We all love the mural, it’s so inspiring! It helps us all to think about how important it is to take care of our environment. We are proud to be a Green Flag Eco-School’.
