Dorset Art Market returns to Dorchester

Following the success of the first Dorset Art Market, which took place over Easter, the market will return to the Avenue Stadium in Dorchester on Saturday 29th June.

The art market will bring together a different group of talented artists from across Dorset, who will be selling affordable originals, prints and handmade items. Items range from wall art and gift cards, to craft packs for children using recycled materials, hand-printed items for the home and ceramics, with prices starting from a couple of pounds.

Maree Dethick-Jones of Mooni Gooni Glass, who attended the first market and will return in June said, “I feel so lucky to have the opportunity to take part in the Art Market. It’s so important to promote and support the huge variety of highly talented artists we have right on our own doorstep here in Dorset, and the market provides us with an exciting way to do this”

The June market will feature artists specialising in print-making, collage, glasswork, jewellery, ceramics, pencil drawings and paint. Artists are attending from across the County from Lyme Regis, North Dorset, Weymouth and Portland, through to Purbeck. Many of the artists took place in the recent Open for Art event and Purbeck Art Weeks.

The market organisers said “We’ve had a fantastic response to the market so far from both the artists involved and visitors, with just under 400 visitors at the first market. The June market will include even more artists and we hope that visitors and local people will come along to see the stunning range of work on show and take something beautiful home with them. There is something very special about owning work by a local artist, inspired by the place where you live or love!”

Dorset is home to an amazing number of talented artists, which is highlighted by events including the recent Open for Art event and Purbeck Art Weeks. All the artists attending the Art Market say that they are inspired by the local area, its natural environment and coastline. Fine Artist, Cathy Veale, said “I like to paint large seascapes as I have always been fascinated by water and inspired by the unique Dorset coastline. Being a keen sailor, I have spent many hours studying the movement and ever- changing patterns of light created by the sky’s interaction with the sea’s reflections. Dorset Art Market is a great place to meet the artist in person and see the work they produce.”

The June market will feature over 30 artists including Mark Page, who creates detailed drawings of architecture and animals, as well as landscapes in oil; locally based ink specialist, Jessamy Keily of Jinks Art who creates stunning scenes inspired by marine life and nature; and Jodie and Clover House of ‘Cut The Rut’, who create vintage inspired collages, as well as children’s art and craft packs made from recycled materials. More information on the artists who will be attending is available at www.dorsetartmarket.co.uk

The markets will also feature talented local musicians busking. Young people from the DASP Music Network will be playing music ranging from indie and folk, to the beautiful melodies of the flute.
