POWFS Secures £1k Grant

A Dorchester school is celebrating after securing a £1,000 grant from the One-Stop’s ‘Carriers for Causes’ scheme. The money will be used to make The Prince of Wales School’s Community Wildlife Area accessible for children with disabilities.

Headteacher at The Prince of Wales School, Mr Gary Spracklen said, “the funding will help the school to upgrade paths in the area to make it wheelchair accessible.

We have a Resource Provision for physically disabled children from across the whole county of Dorset here at The Prince of Wales School. We have up to ten children each year with complex and special educational needs and disabilities. At the moment we have seven students in wheelchairs and for them getting around outside can be quite challenging, especially in our Community Wildlife Garden. We will be using this money from One-Stop’s ‘Carriers for Causes’ scheme to make urgent improvements that will benefit our whole-school community”.

Mr .Spracklen said the school had done everything it could to develop the community area as far as they could – but the extra funding was very much needed. As well as improving accessibility, the school is keen to develop the area further to provide enhanced learning opportunities and would welcome gifts from anyone wish to support their good cause.
