Progress at Martin’s Down service reservoir

The construction of Wessex Water’s Martin’s Down service reservoir near Dorchester has advanced since the project began earlier this year.

The new service reservoir, which will hold 1.5 million litres of water, is replacing an existing smaller tank and will be buried out of sight in the picturesque countryside.

Construction began in April and is expected to come to an end in early 2021. The underground reservoir will ensure a more resilient supply for customers across west Dorset.

Wessex Water’s Joe Edmunds, who is coordinating the project, said: “We recently completed the concrete works to form the reservoir.

“In the upcoming months, we will connect it to our network and reinstate the beautiful Dorset countryside to its former glory.

“The site is adjacent to the A35, so throughout the project we have put measures in place to minimise the impact on road users.”
