The VE Day 80 Beacon lighting event in Dorchester

On the 80th anniversary of VE Day beacon lighting events were held all over the UK to celebrate that occasion and the ending of WWII in Europe. In Dorchester the beacon which stands in the town’s Salisbury Field was surrounded by a large crowd of people who gathered to watch the Mayor light the beacon. Prior to that they had been entertained by the Decadettes who performed songs from the 1940s and readings of VE Day memories performed by the AsOne Theatre Company. Also, the National VE Day Tribute was read by the Town Crier, Anthony Harrison, followed by the sounding of the Last Post played by Joe Ansell. Here is our recording of the event with commentary by Peter Foster.

Audio recording by Peter Foster and Andy Worth.
