Appeal for information following suspicious incident in Bridport

Officers investigating a report of suspicious behaviour in Bridport are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

At around 10pm on Sunday 1 August 2021 it was reported that a 15-year-old girl was walking in the area of Foundry Lane, toward Skilling, when she noticed a man walking in the opposite direction. The man appeared to be looking at her and then seemed to point his phone at her, with the girl believing he was taking a photo.

As she continued to walk, the man began to follow her but went in another direction when they got to St Mary’s playing fields.

The man did not speak to the girl at any point or make any physical contact with her.

He is described as white, aged around 20 years old, approximately five feet ten inches tall and of medium build with pale skin. He was wearing a black baseball cap, grey hooded top with the hood up over his cap and black trousers.

Inspector Matt Chutter, of West Dorset police, told KeeP 106: “We understand this was a concerning incident for the girl involved and we have been carrying out a number of enquiries to try and identify the man as we are keen to speak to him so we can take his account and establish his intentions.

“However, so far we have been unable to identify him and I am appealing to the public for anyone with information about this incident to please come forward.

“I would also urge anyone who was driving in the area on the evening of the incident, or local residents with home CCTV systems, to please check their footage for anything that might assist our enquiries.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk, via email 101@dorset.pnn.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55210123803. Alternatively, to stay 100 per cent anonymous, contact the independent charity Crimestoppers online at Crimestoppers-uk.org or call Freephone 0800 555 111.
