Weymouth RNLI All-weather lifeboat was launched at 1pm on Friday 3rd December at the request of Solent Coastguard to assist a 21ft motor boat which had broken down at a position some 2 miles South of Portland Bill.
The pleasure boat with one person onboard was on passage from Teignmouth to Weymouth when it suffered engine failure.
In the strong current, by the time that the lifeboat was on scene, the vessel had drifted to a position some 6 miles NW of Portland Bill.
Having checked that the skipper of the vessel was ok, the volunteer lifeboat crew passed a line and it was towed back to Weymouth Harbour.
It was tied up at the waiting pontoon by the town bridge at 3.30pm. with the help of Wyke Coastguard CRT who having helped to tie the vessel up offered safety advice to the skipper.
