Dorset Council reports that the Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) had been prepared in response to the Government’s National Bus Strategy Bus Back Better initiative, aimed at improving bus services across England. A refreshed document will be published early next year.
Although the Council’s bid for BSIP funding in round one was unsuccessful, there will be future funding opportunities which will be applied for to action those improvements outlined in the council’s initial plan that can be funded. The council is continuing to work with local bus operators to make improvements to the network within current budgetary constraints.
The purpose of this survey is to seek further input from the public and stakeholders on their priorities for public transport knowing that funding is limited. Dorset Council will be aligning these views with input from local businesses, tourism, health service providers and town and parish councils as well as local transport action groups and other stakeholders.
