A Bradley Ash hat trick at Tonbridge Angels with Akheem Rose & Keelan O’Connell adding a goal each was enough to lift the Terras off the foot of the National League South league table for as long as any Terras’ fans could remember this season.
Manager Bobby Wilkinson said, “A great team performance, but it’s still only 3 points now we must prepare for the next game. Leading 4 nil at half time I told the lads let’s make sure we don’t concede in the second half and keep a clean sheet & they went out and scored again. I am pleased for the players & for the Terras’ fans who travelled up here to support us”.
Dorchester’s game at North Leigh was called off due to a frozen pitch, Portland United drew 3 goals all away at Shaftsbury in the Wessex League while Bridport’s match at St Mary’s was also postponed.
In rugby the story was very much the same, Blandford turned up at Dorchester & it was decided that the pitch was not safe to play on despite Dorchester’s second team playing visitors Oakmeadians Extra First xv on the top pitch & the County Town winning that one by 27 points to 10. Weymouth & Portland travelled to Meyrick Park Bournemouth to lock horns with Oakmeadians, the Seahorses head coach Rich Bament & the referee tried to drive a key into the ground & it just started to bend before breaking through the surface mud & the decision was to postpone the fixture due to player safety concerns.
One result in the Tribute Southern Counties League Yeovil 22 Wimborne 55.
One bit of rugby news to report is the presentation of the Bowden Wildash Silver Salver for volunteer services to rugby to Puddletown Rugby Club stalwart Ray Stephens by former RFU President Willie Wildash.
Ray has been a member of Puddletown for 40 years serving as firstly a player, then as Chairman for a total of 9 years and also as secretary for 12 years all as a volunteer.
Ray’s commitment has helped ensure that the club has become one of the best & friendliest clubs in Dorset & Wiltshire.
Well Done Ray.
